The long wait for the Stargate Theme Park is finally set to get over. The Dh280 million family edutainment facility, currently being built at the Zaabeel Park, will open its doors for the public in March, Dubai Municipality announced on Monday.

The civic body had announced this project way back in October 2004. A joint venture between the Dubai Municipality and Osus property developers, the project was slated to get completed by the end of 2006.

Later, the civic body said there was a delay due to the shortage of building materials.

Hussain Nasser Lootah, the Acting Director General at the civic body said the project was a perfect example of government-private sector partnership.

“This is a unique hi-tech themed family edutainment centre. It is the largest of its kind in the entire Middle East and will be a perfect addition to a large array of ambitious projects lined up in Dubai,” said Lootah.

“Stargate family edutainment centre is designed with the ideal mix of world class education and wholesome family entertainment. The project is constructed and themed in the form of a spaceship and covers a total area of 260,000 square feet,” the top official said.

The overall concept was created around two animated characters called ‘Ajeeb’ and ‘Ghareeb’, who captain a spaceship named Stargate.

Their spaceship lands in the Zaabeel Park, with half of the spaceship lodged underground.

The adventures and antics of Ajeeb and Ghareeb is the key of Stargate’s marketing strategy.

The park is sure to attract a lot of children as well as adults, DM officials said.

The civic body has signed a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) contract with Osus for Stargate.

The main attractions are spread across five domes of fun, each one offering a unique experience from 3D games to shows.

There is also ‘No Speed Limit’, highspeed electric go-karting and a family rollercoaster called the ‘Spinning Earth’.

Other features include the Chil dren’s Academy, the Bermuda Triangle and the Leisure Triangle Stargate also houses the ‘Space Mall’ offering a complete shopping experi ence exclusively for children.
